Viggo Mortensen is an amazing, mesmerizing actor all around. His presence is felt, his silence is heard and his voice/words resonate to the viewer. This is more than apparent in his role in “Eastern Promises” where he works as an Assassin/Cleaner for a Russian Mob family. Although he’s hardcore at heart and can stomach despicable acts, he has a heart and is capable of great good as he is of incredible and hideous acts.

This becomes ever more apparent when he meets a midwife (Naomi Watts) who holds the diary to a teenage Russian girl that dies giving birth. Though she’s from London and doesn’t speak Russian she manages to get the diary translated and washes up at the Russian Mob family’s door.

She suspects that the girl was raped and abused and is trying to get to the bottom of it because there’s a baby that is left an orphan do to these criminal acts. This is how “Nikolai” (Viggo Mortensen) and “Anna” (Naomi Watts) meet.

Though he tries to remain uninvolved he has a hard time. There’s a mutual attraction and he respects her persistence and passion on finding out what happened to the young Russian girl who dies at the beginning of the movie.

This movie is amazing. The acting is remarkable. Viggo Mortensen doesn’t speak much but he really doesn’t have to, you know he’s there, you feel him. The violence is uncanny and unkind. Yet well executed and acted out. If you’re a fan of Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts this a MUST SEE Movie.
