President Obama praises Shakira for joining Education Committee for Hispanics.
President Barack Obama has thanked Colombian pop star Shakira for joining his committee to provide the best education for Hispanics living in America. The international superstar has already founded a major organization, the Pies Descalzos Foundation (literally, “barefoot”), which she started in her native country.
Shakira has long been involved with educational issues in her homeland through the Foundation, and has ensured students in Haiti and South Africa have access to nutritious meals as well as educational and psychological support service. Her work with children has caught the eye of President Obama, who has made her a member of his Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanic.
“Let’s not forget that at the end of this day when we all go home, 960 children will have died in Latin America.”-Shakira said when she received a UN award for her philanthropic work.
The American leader has praised the singer and her fellow committee members for agreeing to advise the government on ways to improve educational opportunities and performance among Hispanics.
“I am grateful that these impressive individuals have chosen to dedicate their talents to serving the American people at this important time for our country. I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead.”-President Obama said.
The commission, which has been active since May, is one of the President’s steps to outreach Hispanics and its celebrities, which he earlier did with Eva Longoria and Rosario Dawsonin the beginning of the year.

"I believe that every child should have the right to follow their dreams and get an education"-Shakira.
