Perry grew up with gospel music, and during her first year of high school she pursued a music career as Katy Hudson, releasing her first studio album called Katy Hudson which failed to chart. She first gained recognition with the release of her first mainstream album, One of the Boys in 2008, which spawned three Billboard Hot 100 top-ten songs–”I Kissed A Girl”, “Hot n Cold” and “Waking Up in Vegas”. in 2010, her third studio album, Teenage Dream (2010), which topped the Billboard 200 chart, and spawned five number one singles–”California Gurls”, “Teenage Dream”, “Firework”, “E.T.” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”–Teenage Dream was the only album (after Michael Jackson’s Bad)–to do so, and the first female in history to achieve this milestone. Perry was a guest judge on the seventh series of The X Factor UK and the ninth season of American Idol.

While There Are Still No “real” Katy Perry Topless Photos, We Can’t

Pictures of Katy Perry

Born in Santa Barbara, California, and raised by Christian pastor parents, Perry grew up listening to only gospel music and sang in her local church as a child. She rose to fame with the release of her second single “I Kissed a Girl” in 2008, which went on to top international charts. The album produced five Hot 100 toppers, and was only the second album–after Michael Jackson’s Bad–to do so and the album produced six Hot 100 top ten hits. Perry was born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson in Santa Barbara, California to Keith, a West Coast scenester in the 1960s, and Mary Hudson (née Perry), an evangelist who grew up in Southern California and had “a tempestuous first marriage in Zimbabwe”. She has an older sister and younger brother. She took her GED after her freshman year at Dos Pueblos High School and decided to leave school in the pursuit of a career in music. Ballard then helped Perry develop her songwriting over the next few years. With no album project ongoing, Perry began recording her own.

Katy Perry equals Michael Jackson’s record

Big reason for big smile: Katy Perry's five number one singles equal Michael Jackson's record.

Katy Perry has become the first woman to have five number one singles from the same album on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Her latest song ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)’ made history as it became her fifth single from platinum record ‘Teenage Dream’ to reach the top spot, after the success of ‘California Gurls‘, ‘Teenage Dream’, ‘Firework’ and ‘E.T.

The late pop legend Michael Jackson achieved the same record when his album Bad featured five number one singles between 1987 and 1988 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Katy Perry must be really proud being compared to the King of Pop.

“What a way to wake up! SO proud to announce that the little-engine-that-could of a song ‘LAST FRIDAY NIGHT’ is officially #1 & made HISTORY! (sic)”-she wrote on her Twitter account to announce the great news.

Katy Perry later praised her fans for helping her become the first woman in music to equal Michael Jackson’s record.

“& u know, I couldn’t have done it with out ya, really I owe u guys BIG… so take this moment to give yourself a high FIVE!!! #allbecauseofu (sic)”-she added afterwards.

Katy Perry's fun-loving music made a record that only Michael Jackson has done it before.
