
Who is Edna Campbell? Edna Campbell is a retired women’s basketball player who played on a total of four different teams in the WNBA. She was a guard and known as being a star player for the Sacramento Monarchs. She however received most her recognition for continuing to play ball despite the fact that she was suffering and being treated for Breast Cancer.
Campbell is only one of many celebrity women who has fought and won the battle against Breast Cancer. She was diagnosed with Breast Cancer during her second out of four seasons in Sacramento. She refused to be defeated and continued to play ball and live a normal life while she was being treated for the disease. Campbell became the WNBA’s national spokesman in the anti-cancer efforts with Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. She received the Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award in 2003 and was nominateed in 2006 as the “most inspirational and one of the top four WNBA Decade Anniversary moments”. After her retirement from the game Campbell was hired by the Silver Spurs as a television commentator. She has since completed a nursing degree and continues to inspire women with her story and fight against Breast Cancer.
Interesting Fact: Did you know that women who wait to have children till later in life or who never have children and women who get their period at an early age are said to be at higher risk for Breast Cancer. It’s also believed by many that breast feeding can lower a woman’s risk of getting Breast Cancer.
